The observation tower stands on the northeastern edge of the town of Velké Meziříčí, at the top of Fajta Hill, which is 557 m high. The tower offers not only a view of the city, the picturesque landscape of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, the Žďárské Hills to the northwest, the Drahanská Highlands to the east, but it is also possible to see the towers of Dukovany, located 50 km to the southeast, and on good weather days, even a view into Austria.
The structure has become a significant landmark not only for the immediate area but is also very well visible from the nearby D1 highway (142 km). The tower is located right at the top of the hill, adjacent to the upper station of the cable car of the Ski Area Fajtův kopec, which prompted the entire project to be successfully realized in 2015 after several years of preparation.
The observation tower is composed of two operationally independent units.
A single-story base, which houses a visitor center, rental of hiking and sports equipment, restrooms, and technical facilities for the lift. This space is designed very simply and purposefully. The base also serves as the boarding platform for the observation tower itself.
The tower's design, which was developed using a parametric design process, features a unique expression and a distinctive structural solution. The steel structure of the tower consists of two sets of three counter-rotating columns that form the static base of the construction. Inside this structure are 10 stair arms, which, along with another set of three internal columns, provide the spatial stiffness of the entire tower, which has a total height of 36.00 m. At the top, all the columns are connected by a circular ring, on which an observation platform of the tower is installed at a height of 32.40 m.
The observation tower on Fajta Hill in Velké Meziříčí was named the observation tower of the year 2015 in a public poll announced by the Club of Friends of Observation Towers.
