The original building of the former Hodolany Theatre had served as a scene storage for the last 20 years. After an even longer period of neglect, technical issues with the structure began to manifest, leading the city to sell the property to a private owner. The aim of the design was to propose an architecturally meaningful adaptation of the theatre and its surroundings in relation to the newly considered use, as well as to find an optimal urban integration of the complex into the context of the existing development.
The concept of the renovation design was to preserve the historic building in its original form and complement it with contemporary materials that were necessary for the new use of the property. The theatre spaces now serve as the main representative entrance, and additional offices for the management are located in the extension.
The new buildings have a simple mass of cubes that sensitively complement the original structure, characterized by the use of contemporary materials such as glass and weathered CORTEN steel. On the southern side of the former theatre, a low cube clad in Corten sheets containing a casino has been added, with a restaurant located behind the glazed facade. Through the connecting passage leading above the entrance to the parking lot, one can enter the tall cube on the western side of the resort, whose facades are again treated in a combination of glass and corten. This building houses hotel and wellness facilities. Between the two new masses, there is a wall made of exposed concrete defining the internal space of the resort.
Part of the design also includes an update of the traffic solution, which primarily involves the restoration of the ramp from Velkomoravská Street to Tovačovského Street. The main entrances to the resort are from the north via Ostravská Street, as well as the entrances to the parking areas, which are located in the courtyard area as well as in the basement. Supply to the building also takes place underground.
