Reconstruction of the Octagon

The object is located on the border of the urban conservation area of Kutná Hora, at the corner of Štefánikova and Krupičkova streets. It is the original building of a vinegar and mustard factory, which was built in 1920 according to the design of Tomáš Pražák (1890-1947) and Pavel Moravec (1891-1979). The facade facing Štefánikova street exhibits elements of Cubism, the building features a reinforced concrete column system, beam ceilings, and masonry exterior walls. After the vinegar production ceased, the building served many purposes and underwent several reconstructions. The lack of ongoing investments led to the gradual deterioration of the object and eventually to a state of emergency that required a general reconstruction.
The reconstruction of the object, taking place in two phases, allowed for its reconversion into a multifunctional building. The object consists of several parts forming a U-shaped complex. The main building of the original production hall shaped like an "L" was transformed into a wellness center with a rooftop terrace and sauna on the 3rd floor and a fitness center on the 2nd floor. The adjacent corner villa, originally serving as the administrative office of the factory and the owner's residence, now serves as a guesthouse, manager's apartment, and attic apartment. The adjacent single-story structure, which served as storage, was demolished. A new retail store was built in its original footprint. In the second phase of the reconstruction, the interior of the main building will see the opening of a restaurant on the 1st floor, a bar in the basement of the main building, and a wine cellar in the basement of the corner villa..
Despite the complicated spatial adjustments, our goal was to preserve the character of the industrial building to the maximum extent possible. Open hall spaces have been retained in the areas of the fitness center, gym, and restaurant. Exposed reinforced concrete columns, beam ceilings, and cleaned brick masonry have become dominant elements of the interior. Yellow represents a strong and invigorating element of the fitness center's interior. Snow white with accents of various colors according to the type of treatment has become the principle of the wellness center.
