When you want a renovation to turn out well, it is essential that the foundation of the renovated space is good, primarily in that it provides the possibility for maximum utilization of the space. The investor consulted with us regarding the purchase of the apartment, and it was our responsibility to assess how suitable the original layout would be. The elongated space, where the core was in the center and the entrance to the apartment was from the longer blind side, was a good choice.
Among the main problems of the apartment that the renovation had to solve were a small bathroom, an unnecessarily wide hallway with no possibility of any storage space, sound transmission between rooms, cold floors (the apartment is on the ground floor), and old windows that were inadequate both functionally and thermally.
In the design, we reduced the hallway, where we integrated cabinets. We enlarged the bathroom to accommodate a washing machine and dryer, and we moved the toilet to the end of the hallway, where behind the wooden cladding that forms the back of the toilet, the boiler is hidden. We maximally enlarged the children's room at the expense of a minimal bedroom and maximized the space of the living room and kitchen.

Materials
The central theme that runs through the entire apartment is the flooring; although it is a classic "herringbone," it is a three-layer laminate suitable for underfloor heating, which, thanks to the detail of the perimeter border, takes on a castle-like character. The second piece in the mosaic of materials is the color gray, in many shades, from the painted doors of the kitchen cabinets in a light tone to the wall behind the bench in the dining room in a dark shade, through various shades of gray on different cushions and fabrics, including the sofa. The last piece in the material mosaic is black, in the form of a subtle black stripe that complements the interior. We find it on all metal parts, including the handles, metal tables, the black base under the dining table, and also in the bathroom on the faucets and shower.

Regarding individual rooms and details:

kitchen
is relatively short, but we tried to maximize the possible storage space, which is why the cabinets go up to the ceiling. The hood is integrated into the upper cabinets. The material contrast between the black countertop (HPL high-pressure laminate) and the gray cabinetry (painted MDF in satin) is important. The handles were solved atypically, including a complex recessed handle for the refrigerator in the front part.

dining table with bench: the bench against the wall conceals drawers for storing a large number of small items, the seat cushions were custom made, are washable, and to ensure their movement and prevent sliding, they are attached with Velcro to the base. We designed the dining table ourselves; the tabletop is made from leftover flooring, which is set into a black metal frame, and the table legs were crafted by a blacksmith.

bathroom
is really small, even though it is larger than before. Emphasis is placed on materials, where a distinctive graphic element is the black-and-white floor. All other tiles are white and unobtrusive. The wooden cabinet under the sink stands out much better because of this, and the black end pieces of the bathroom underscore and highlight its playfulness.

hallway and entrance
ironically, the doors play the primary role; they are white, but the striking black handles add uniqueness to the simple space. The pattern of the floor then makes the entire area cozier. The cabinets are designed to be integrated into the wall, making the entire space simple. A small seating area at the entrance to the apartment is sufficient for quickly and comfortably putting on children's shoes.
