The extension of specialized classrooms is two stories with a pent roof. It adjoins the gymnasium and the connecting corridor of the main school building. It is a cubic structure with a minimalist facade division. The load-bearing structure of the monolithic reinforced concrete ceiling and roof consists of mature and branching oak trunks, which have been stripped of their bark. Thanks to the full-glass facade on the northern side, they are clearly visible. On the northern side of the building, there is also part of the school park with trees - the trunks in the interior enhance the feeling of merging of outdoor and indoor space. The trees have been installed in such a way that they fulfill their load-bearing function while creating the impression that the trunks with branches grow through both floors.
On the first floor of the extension, there are workshops with a preparation area and a garage, and on the second, classrooms for computer science, natural sciences, and language instruction. The spatial division is austere, and the communication is simple; at the point of connection to the corridor of the older building, there is a foyer with seating and game table elements on both floors. In the interior, concrete blocks are visually prominent, which determined the color scheme: gray, white, and wood. In contrast to this, we installed striking colored elements: doors, frames, and furniture.
Building materials: cast concrete ceiling of the first floor, wooden ceiling cladding of the second floor, coarse concrete blocks in classrooms and corridors, large-format glazing with minimal division and roughly processed oak trunks create a readable and clean space intended for concentration and education. The visually prominent substances of materials, including tree columns, necessitated quality construction execution.
In addition to the original oak structure, it is also worth emphasizing that the building is connected to a ground-water heat pump system. Rainwater is directed to an infiltration tank in the school garden. Thus, the extension is interconnected with nature not only visually and through materials but also functionally and operationally.
