Costa Coffee cafe extension

Costa Coffee cafe extension
architectural solution
The main visual motif of the extension is the arches of the openings creating the impression of a pavilion, complemented by a hip roof with a glazed flat section. This glazed roof brings daylight into the interior of the extension in a relatively shady courtyard. The arches on the façade are part of the outer load-bearing steel structure of the extension, which simultaneously forms its cladding. Behind this layer are fully glazed fixed and sliding panels.

The color of the extension has been chosen in a uniform light olive shade. This shade will be slightly adjusted to match the color of the façade of the entire house. A sheet metal folded covering of the extension is designed in the same shade as the façade of the extension.

The design of the extension also determines the shape and color of the planter for climbing plants and simultaneously the trellis on the same wall adjacent to the neighboring plot. The planter will have rounded corners, and its cladding will consist of light-stained wooden boards. The trellis on the wall will be white and its shape will be composed of geometric elements of a square, its diagonals, and a circle.
The design of the interior is not part of the assignment and is therefore not addressed in detail. The visualized interior may serve as a basis for a more detailed proposal.

material and technical solution
The load-bearing structure of the extension will consist of a steel cladding of the building. It is anticipated to be founded on pads, or possibly on a foundation slab. The glazed walls of the extension will be thermally and waterproof. The roof's load-bearing structure will consist of steel ribs connecting to vertical posts. This structure will support the thermal and waterproof layers of the roofing. An insulating layer beneath the floor is also anticipated. The window infills and façade sliding system will be wood-aluminum or aluminum, in addition to the glazing. The existing air handling units mounted on the façade will be relocated to the flat roof of the extension.
