Revitalization of Zapovy Street in Benešov near Prague
Investor:město Benešov
Project:2017-18
Completion:2018-19

Transport solutions: Ing. Jan Touš
Greenery design: Ing. Magdaléna Myšková Kaščáková
Given the planned reconstruction of engineering networks in part of the street, the city leadership decided to completely renew the entire street. The assignment included the design and clarification of the traffic solution, including parking spaces balanced with areas designated for pedestrians, a proposal for urban greenery, supplemented by potential urban furniture. The street, 400 meters long, is incorporated into the rectangular urban structure of a specific part of Benešov with exclusively residential buildings in close proximity to the city center. The goal of the design was to unify the entire street, set a pleasant scale, and create a friendly atmosphere through adjustments to the cross-profile in favor of pedestrians, a thoughtful composition of greenery, and durable natural materials. The renewal plan for the street also includes a proposal for new public lighting and two stops for public transport buses. Given the overall traffic frequency in the area, a mixed car and bicycle flow is anticipated. The material solutions respect the current "Manual of Urban Surfaces" (authors of the manual: Holiš + Šochová architects, 2016). Great emphasis is also placed on the design of greenery. A total of 52 new trees are being planted on the street. Despite the significant increase in greenery, the design has managed to maintain almost the same number of parking spaces as before the renewal.
