New case of the memorial book of fallen Czechoslovak RAF pilots from 1939–1945 at the Schwarzenberg Chapel of St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague.Prague's St. Vitus, Wenceslas, and Adalbert Cathedral is a spiritual symbol, but also a symbol of our nation and our state identity. Here we can find memorials to important events in our country. From the beginning of our history to the present day. There are graves of saints, princes, kings, emperors, and graves of prominent individuals. However, there are also monuments to those who were willing to lay down their lives for this country. Therefore, there is a memorial for the victims of World War I, World War II, and to them relates the newly housed Book of Czechoslovak pilots, members of Czech, Israeli, and German nationalities who fought within the Royal Air Force and many of whom died.
For the book, we designed a case that allows for its dignified presentation. The readability of the book's content, i.e., the names of the pilots, was decisive for the overall design formation. The surface on which the book is displayed is tilted at an angle of 30° toward the observer. The protective glass is equipped with a protective layer against UV radiation. On the sides of the glass are placed emblems of the RAF squadrons of Czechoslovak pilots. The surface on which the book is placed descends freely downward, gently bends, and creates a space at the bottom for the placement of flowers. It is segmented by linear stripes symbolizing air flows during the movement of the aircraft. This object is made of duralumin, an aviation material, with a suitable surface treatment for the cathedral interior.
