Mezonet apartment

Mezonet apartment
Address: Bajkalská ul., III Veže, Bratislava, Slovakia
Completion:2023

The two-level mezzanine apartment is located in the residential complex III Towers in Bratislava. The western orientation towards the city determined the brief, which from the beginning emphasized minimalist shape and material solutions. Clinically white surfaces serve as a visually clean backdrop for the interior itself, allowing the natural travertine cladding and individual pieces of furniture to stand out.

The entrance to the apartment is located on the lower of the two floors, where the layout has remained unchanged. The volume of the entrance wardrobe smoothly transitions into the tall part of the kitchen cabinetry, successfully covering the bulky vertical shafts of the building and visually unifying the space. In the last segments of the tall kitchen unit, a kitchen sink with a small countertop is located, which, however, disappears into the uniform white vertical wall when the doors are closed. Dominating as a working surface and also elevated seating, there is a shape-defining island with a circular floor plan. The circle was chosen for its purity, and at the same time it does not strictly define the space as "kitchen," allowing for a fluid and non-conflicting movement option in its immediate vicinity. The material dominant of the lower floor is the travertine wall, which enlivens and harmonizes the space.

We reach the second above-ground floor via a three-armed staircase. By removing the original partition walls, an open space was created, which we decided to divide with an embracing travertine wall. This provides intimacy for the night area and, with its irregular pattern, disrupts the visual cleanliness and severity of the surrounding interior. Given the generous, relaxed layout, this space also includes hygiene elements – a freestanding sink and a semi-transparent shower. Their circular floor plans connect with the elements of the island or the roof skylights, which gently illuminate the inner parts of the layout and allowed for atypical spatial delineation.

The second floor also features a separate bathroom, which also adheres to the circular shape in connection with the roof skylight. The newly designed arched partition creates a symmetrical screen for the toilet and shower area.
