Rabbit on the radio

Rabbit on the radio
Address: Křižíkova 65a, Karlín, Prague, Czech Republic
Completion:2017

Rabbit in the Radio is a family café and restaurant that also serves as a children's playroom.
The space was handed over in shell/core condition on the ground floor of a residential building, with basic connections to the technologies. It was a new building with one entire wall featuring fixed glazing.
The task was to create a connected space with a restaurant/café and playroom, where parents could sit in the café area while simultaneously watching their children in the playroom. The playroom is complemented by a lounge for hosting children's parties. The main space was divided by a movable partition made of lacquered MDF, which can be fully retracted if necessary, creating two enclosed areas.
A new space for gastronomic services was created in the café, equipped with all the necessary facilities, offering both hot and cold cuisine.
The overall concept of the café and playroom is styled in the manner of the 1960s, both in color and the shape of the furniture and lighting. The floor features a softened epoxy layer in four different colors, which vary according to the focus of the room, and in the transition between the café and playroom, the change is simulated by inserting an additional color. The furniture and decorative lighting are old refurbished pieces from the original furnishings. New carpentry elements are made from profiled MDF or custom-designed pallet furniture with new faux leather upholstery.
Given the type of space and large glazing, it was necessary to soundproof the area, for which oval-shaped foam acoustic panels in pastel colors were used. The glass fill has safety stickers for the protection of children.
