Interiors of the department store White Swan
Architect: Jan Gillar
Address: Na Poříčí 23, Nové Město, Prague, Czech Republic
Completion:1937-39

Until the 1970s, the largest and most modern department store in Prague. Upon opening in 1939, it attracted great attention: the system, heating and air conditioning, advertising lighting, pneumatic mail, and automated waste collection were European unique features. Noteworthy were also the capacity and speed of the elevators and escalators (up to 4000 people per hour). The sales floor was illuminated through a wall of thermos glass measuring 20 x 30m, which also forms the street facade.
