Disposition – we have made only slight adjustments to the original project by architect Aleš Gadlina. This primarily involves opening the lower living floor to the staircase hall, where we removed partitions and sliding doors separating the living room from the kitchen with dining area. This created an airy space open through the hall into the upper floor, making the staircase the main dominant feature of the entire house. The living room connects to a smoking room with a wine cellar. In another section, the hall provides access to the relaxation area, which is equipped with a sauna, hot tub, gym, and shower. On the upper floor, the individual bedrooms are accessible from the gallery, each having its own bathroom.
Concept / Colors / Materials - the main unifying element became exposed concrete, which we designed to remain unplastered and instead, wherever there were reinforced concrete structures, to keep it revealed. This creates an interesting contrast with the white plastered walls of the masonry structures. The concrete structure is further complemented by cement screeds on the floor of the lower floor and colored screeds in the individual bathrooms. The floors in the upper floor consist of three-layer oak flooring with a surface treatment of thermo bleached rustic. In the dining room, stained veneer with a board composition is used for the cladding and the dining table top. The overall color scheme of the interior connects to the exterior of the house, transitioning from shades of gray to white and black, with small accents of wood and glass. Glass surfaces are combined in a classic clear finish - the staircase railing and entrance door, and a smoky finish on the sliding doors and the wardrobe arch on the upper floor. Kitchen – from the originally ordered kitchen unit with rounded corners, we retained only the tall part with a logical connection to the arch of the wardrobe, visible from the central staircase hall. Conversely, the rounded island was replaced with a simple square shape, directly connected to a cantilevered dining table. The junction of the dining table and cooking island is done at an angle, mirroring the slanted shape of the ceiling above the kitchen. Above the cooking island is suspended the so-called "chandelier" hood, which also serves as lighting for the kitchen area. The kitchen connects to a pantry and a utility room. Dining Room – The originally separate dining table has been incorporated as an extension of the cooking island. The structure of the dining table's console is made from steel beams. The dining chairs are chosen from plastic with stitched padding and metal legs. Above the dining table hangs a long Jamaica lamp from Foscarini. Next to the dining room is a library made from steel shelves on wooden cladding of the supporting pillar. Living Room – the elongated layout of the living room gave rise to a double-sided sofa, which can be rotated as needed. Its main orientation is partially towards the TV and fireplace, and from the other side towards the dining room. The furniture around the TV consists of very simple forms. In one corner of the room, a wood-burning fireplace is built in. In the other corner, there is a wide entrance with sliding doors to the smoking room with the wine cellar. Smoking Room with Wine Cellar - is ventilated using heat recovery. It is equipped with a set of open boxes made of plywood, some of which are complemented by steel boxes for storing wine. Part of the shelves houses a wine fridge. In the space, there are two retro butterfly chairs upholstered in cowhide. A steel side table is a variation on shelves for wine. Relaxation Area - consists of two parts. The first part includes a toilet and shower, for which a single sliding door is made of smoky glass. In a niche is placed a custom-made concrete pedestal sink, contrasting with the black screeds on the walls. The second part of the relaxation area consists of a small home gym and a connected glass sauna with a hot tub.
Staircase / Gallery - the staircase is constructed from reinforced concrete, and the glass railing is anchored by a steel girder. The upper part of the railing connects to a full glass partition with doors from the entrance. This central staircase hall is illuminated by a large skylight. One of the dominant features and ultimately a challenge for the interior solution is the wardrobe arch, which protrudes into the hall space. The original design of the stained glass was gradually replaced with variations of designs from bamboo plexi, through a system of steel wires with a textile curtain inside the wardrobe, to the winning solution with a custom glass arch, again in smoky glass, which preserves the wardrobe's intimacy while allowing it to be illuminated by natural light. Bedroom / Bathroom – the main bedroom is directly connected to the bathroom. It is separated from the bathroom by a partition made of smoky glass with sliding doors. The dominant feature of the bedroom is a ceiling light from Ingo Maurer La Crime del Pescatore - that is a fishing net. The netting is adorned with glass crystals, which are lit by side reflectors. This creates a play of small colored reflections on the ceiling. The light fixture was selected as a contrast to the otherwise very austere decor of the bedroom with concrete walls. The connecting bathroom is divided into a utility area with a shower and sinks for daily use, and another part by the window for relaxation with a free-standing bathtub. The division corresponds to the materials of the floors - around the bathtub is laid a black river mosaic. The free-standing sinks are complemented by an unusually large mirrored storage wall, combining open shelves made of raw steel and stainless surfaces for wall faucet outlets. The faucets are chosen for rounded drop shapes, specifically the Goccia brand from Gessi. Guest Room / Bathroom – the guest room is furnished with a large bed with a pillow headboard. Next to the bedroom is a simple bathroom with a shower. The dominant wall of exposed concrete is illuminated by a series of ceiling spotlights. Children's Room - is accessible through a separate wardrobe, which connects to a bathroom and the actual bedroom. The bathroom is equipped with the same series of faucets as the main bathroom, but in a white finish. The room itself is left relatively open to serve maximal for children's games, building blocks, and car tracks. One wall, similar to the study, consists of a set of boxes made from natural plywood combined with white lacquered doors. Dominating the children's room is a wall decoration in the form of an eighteen-inch sporty aluminum bicycle from BMW. Accessories - the entire apartment was furnished with accessories from LooooX, which emphasize the character of the interior in terms of material and color.
