Hotel Barley Interior in Prague

The addressed spaces are located on the 7th floor of the former accommodation facility of the trade union enterprise Teplotechna on Ječná Street, designed by architect Věra Machoninová in the early 1980s.
The spaces were used until the last moment for short-term accommodation of guests, but they no longer met the aesthetic or hygienic requirements of today. The reconstruction resulted in 6 double rooms and 6 triple rooms, as well as 1 apartment for 5 people - all rooms with their own sanitary facilities and air conditioning.
We were invited to the project at a time when a new layout and structural technical solution had already been proposed, and our task was to design only a new design for the hotel rooms and corridor of the hotel floor.
Conceptually, we were inspired by the unmistakable street facade of the building - its colors and curves, which we tried to project into the interior. The existence of green color on the window frames was used as the base color for the interior on doors, furniture, and the ceiling, while the blue color of the facade was repeated in the striking color of the bathrooms, and the curves of the facade were translated into simple decorative lines of the rooms. We equipped the rooms with colorfully expressive but simply shaped atypical furniture designed with maximum practicality for hotel operation in mind. And for the corridor, we designed wall graphics of a motorcyclist, which may not seem to fit the concept at first glance, but the similarity of "harley – barley" (in English: barley – Ječná Street) and the investor's fondness for this icon ultimately led us to the name of the hotel.
