The Sokolov region surprised us with its beauty, of which we had no idea. This made it all the more interesting for us to design a house in this area. The gently sloping plot, on which we designed the house, is located at the edge of a small town by the forest. We wanted the house to blend into the landscape, allowing the architecture to dissolve from the city into nature with trees and a pond. Throughout the plot, we preserved the original birches and other trees, which we incorporated into the individual spaces of the garden. Due to the sloping terrain of the plot, we partially embedded the single-story object into the slope along its longer side. To the street and the entrance, the house is closed off by a massive stone wall with smaller windows. The house opens up to the private garden area with full glazing. For us, it was important in the design to contrast the massive stone, resembling a "fortress," facing the street with the lightness of the glazed facade towards the private parts of the garden. We positioned the main longitudinal mass of the house in the upper part of the expansive plot, adjacent to the street with its back wall, where the garage, toilet, technical facilities, living area, and bedroom wing are gradually arranged. A perpendicular mass with the entrance and a second bedroom wing connects to the longitudinal mass, dividing the outdoor space into an entrance area and a private one. By being partially embedded from the street, there is a view of the surrounding landscape through its variably colored green roof.
The house has load-bearing exterior walls and ceilings made of reinforced concrete. The walls with the massive stone outer wall are designed as sandwich walls with inserted thermal insulation. The aluminum windows in the walls align with the stone wall.
To achieve the lightness of the glazed facade, we designed a window facade system for the entire height of the house, concealing the thickness of the roof and attic behind the glazing of the facade system. For us, it was important in this facade to play with large glazed parts, smaller windows, full fixed or opening segments. The window glazing consists of insulating triple glazing with sun protection. Natural materials used include massive sandstone crushed stone, and the interior features a solid oak floor combined with veneered and lacquered oak furniture parts.
