Simple house for our own family, a base for work, in Liberec, at the foothills of the Jizera Mountains. We live as a family on the ground floor, where everything necessary is available in contact with the garden. Additional functions take place upstairs, a spacious study with a guest room and a large rooftop terrace. This expands our small garden during the summer months, encouraging us to work outside with a laptop, relax, gaze at the clouds, or grow vegetables.
The center of activity inside is the living room on the ground floor, facing south into the garden, connected to a divisible children's room and a bedroom. On the street side, there is a bathroom, a toilet, and a technical room. Individual spaces can be separated or connected using sliding doors. The structure of the house is wooden, beam-based, a "two by four" system, designed as diffusely open, clad with larch boards that age quickly and contrast with the yellow glaze of the windows and the coatings of the boards. The standard was designed as energy-efficient, with central hot water heating, an electric boiler, supplemented by a stove and a boiler. A few years later, we added an outdoor sauna when the neighbors built a small pond. We removed the fence and enjoy the connected gardens communally. It evokes pleasant memories of childhood and the book by Astrid Lindgren, "Children of Noisy Village."
