LocationThe dominant feature of the North Bohemian town of Most is the peak with the Hněvín Castle. On the southern slope are vineyards, while the northern one has gardening colonies. This is gradually transforming, with recreation giving way to individual housing. The plot located in the upper half of the northern slope had several specific characteristics. Its conical irregular shape, underdimensional access via a local one-way road, significant steepness, yet despite all this, breathtaking views over the ČSA surface mine all the way to the Krušné hory massif with wind turbines.
A place and a town full of contrasts. The ravaged landscape yielding to open-pit coal mining versus the natural scenery of the Krušné hory massif.
DesignThe specificity of the plot significantly influenced the placement of the house on the land and the mass solutions. The access road above the plot slopes down and represents for us the maximum edge that the house's mass should not exceed. The footprint of the house corresponds with the existing retaining wall's alignment. The house is placed on a platform on the slope in such a way that its shed roof of the ground floor part follows the descending incline of the road above the plot. Thus, the mass minimally asserts itself into the street and does not create a barrier for the views into the valley. The entire composition culminates in the upper part, evoking a tower, a space with the best view in the house. Here is the parents' bedroom with a window spanning the entire width of the room. The interior is dominated by clean shapes and lines, with basic colors such as white, gray, and yellow. Large windows create framed views into the landscape, changing images over time. It is not important how the interior will be furnished, what sofa it will have, dining table, TV, etc., these are fleeting things, and over time they will be replaced by other pieces; what remains is the context, the views, the orientation.
Construction and MaterialsThe house is designed as a low-energy wooden construction. Due to the complicated access to the plot, a prefabricated technology was used, the "two by four" stud frame system. Both the upper and lower parts are covered with a flat or respectively a shed roof with PVC foil and a layer of gravel. The façade is unified by wooden vertical cladding made of thermally modified wood - thermo wood, which was also used for the sliding solid panel protecting the southern window of the dining room and for the outdoor terraces levitating above the surrounding terrain. The space of the covered terrace and covered parking area is clad with Fundermax panels in a gray finish.
