The urban plan respects two heterogeneous characteristics of the Giudecca island: dense settlement in the north and a somewhat looser network of industrial complexes overlooking the Lagoon. The project for the former industrial zone is based on “microsurgical” approaches, where on one hand, it engages in radical transformations (renovations or new constructions), and on the other, it relies on unobtrusive modifications of existing buildings and open spaces. The former Junghans complex thus opens up towards the city and creates a new view of the extraordinary landscape of the Lagoon. New paths have been created in the spaces between the industrial buildings, and a new canal has been excavated. A new square has also been established, bordered by the garden of the existing school, from which there is an unobstructed view to the south. Residential building B was constructed between 1998-2002. The building was created by renovating a smaller existing structure overlooking the canal. The new thin brick wall follows the deviation in the plan and the height of the previous building's profile. Large double-height loggias provide a view of the grassy courtyard, bordered by a new brick wall.
