Hradečanka Cottage

Fundamental reconstruction of a historic mountain guesthouse in one of the most picturesque mountain villages of the Krkonoš mountains, offering an incredible view of the Sněžka massif, will provide mountain lovers with an interesting dialogue between mountain tradition and contemporary architectural perspective.

The assignment was to adapt the building into a modern recreation facility that should be connected with quality gastronomy and relaxation in a wellness zone directly within the complex. The chosen concept aims for a sensitive approach to the location of the National Park and respects the historical expression of the existing cottage, which is complemented by a transparent prism in a minimalist form. The extension is detached from the reconstructed building, creating two small atriums freely connected to the slope, where the base of the main ski slope is located.

The interior is designed in accordance with the concept of contrast between the two masses, traditional and new. Traditional materials of historical mountain buildings (especially wood, stone, hand-plastered walls), including dominant tiled stoves, are used in the reconstructed section. The new section features a stark solution that emphasizes the overall expression of the house. The spaces are interconnected with identical materials, which, however, differ in their processing or surface finishing. For example, the original section has a facade of charred wood, which is echoed in the ceiling of the new extension.

On the ground floor of the original building, there is a restaurant offering Italian cuisine, which includes a pizza oven in the main space. The second floor contains standard rooms for guests, while the attic features luxury apartments.

The extension conceals a professional wine cellar in the basement, a lounge on the ground floor, a wellness area, and on the upper floor, an "après-ski bar" directly adjacent to the ski slope.
