The investor's intention is to build a new facility for the Václav Burian Center, which will serve as a social-cultural center for the former Liberec native Václav Burian. The presentation of his life and lifestyle. This construction will enhance the attractiveness of the center of Liberec and this location for the public. The center will offer a range of leisure and educational activities.
The plot designated for construction is located in the historical area of the city near the center of Liberec. This building fills an open gap, attempting to supplement the city and the urban area, which has been damaged by the interventions of time and the inactivity of property owners and developers.
The building attempts to adhere to the scale, street line, typology, form, and rhythm. We would like it to become a precedent for possible future development in the given location.
The proposed structure is four stories high and does not have a basement. The architecture of the center is based on the concept of mass enhancement of the gap. The mass solution of the newly designed building is derived from the height and bulk of the neighboring residential building, aiming to connect with it.
In both frontal views, the new building maintains the line of the cornice. The hipped roof is the result of seeking a mass that will cast the least shadow on the building opposite across the street. The object has a footprint that reflects the shape of the plot and the footprint of the neighboring building.
The color and material uniformity of the outer shell, including the façade and roof, is achieved through cladding with slate, which is used on both the shell and the roof. The principle of visible materials should be naturalness and truthfulness of the material. The window arrangement is compositionally symmetrical on the partial view facades and strives to adopt the rhythm of the surrounding apartment buildings.
The building is designed as an open platform for leisure activities. The main entrance to the building is from the southwest side from Široká Street. The entrance for employees is oriented towards the yard. The ground floor contains an entrance hall with options for light refreshments, a staff room, and restrooms. Visitors to the center then proceed via the stairs or elevator to the upper floors, where there are social rooms intended for leisure activities, exhibitions, projections, etc. The object is designed to be barrier-free.
The structural system is chosen as a combination of reinforced concrete column and wall systems. The ceiling structure on all floors consists of reinforced concrete beams along the perimeter and a reinforced concrete ceiling slab. The staircase is designed as a monolithic reinforced concrete structure anchored to the staircase and elevator walls. The roof's load-bearing structure consists of slanted reinforced concrete slabs, which are anchored to the perimeter beams and supported by monolithic walls of the staircase and elevator shaft. Horizontal stiffness is ensured by the communication core with solid reinforced concrete walls. The object is founded on piles into load-bearing rock subsoil.
