Zlín – The Zlín City Hall plans to build a parking garage near the municipal baths with a capacity of about 100 spaces. Construction is expected to begin in early 2028, and it could be completed in the first half of 2029. The estimated cost is approximately 125 to 140 million crowns excluding VAT, stated Tomáš Melzer, spokesperson for the Zlín City Hall, in today's press release.

The parking garage is to be located between Hradská Street and Růmy Street. It will operate as a Park and Ride (P+R) facility. "The goal of P+R parking lots is to reduce traffic congestion in city centers by having drivers park elsewhere and take public transport to the center. In Zlín’s case, it is also about increasing parking capacity for both bath visitors and local residents," the spokesperson stated.

Residents of the affected areas were able to express their views on the proposed transformation of the space around the baths in April and June during public discussions. Their suggestions are currently being processed, according to representatives of the City Hall. "We consider it crucial to find a way to alleviate traffic in the city while simultaneously offering visitors and residents a comfortable option to park and continue on foot or via public transport to the city center. That is why we commissioned a feasibility study that suggests placing a parking garage with a capacity of approximately 100 spaces right in this location," said Deputy Mayor for Transport Michal Čížek (ANO).

The study was prepared by the Pavel Mudřík Architects studio in cooperation with the Office of the City Architect of Zlín. It plans to close the existing parking lot at the baths, which will be replaced by the parking garage. "Each floor is to have separate access from Růmy Street, which would minimize the impact on the surrounding traffic network. As part of the project, there is also consideration for the construction of a new public transport stop. In connection with the construction of the parking garage, new park arrangements with facilities for relaxation are also proposed," Melzer stated.

The city is also preparing changes around the entrance to the fifty-meter swimming pool building and the modification of the intersection of Hradská Street and Osvoboditelů Street, where a new pedestrian crossing will be created. Work in that area is expected to begin next year. The City Hall is also planning the renovation of adjacent sidewalks and roadways and a bus bay in the direction of Kudlov, which is a local part of Zlín.
