Biography
1936 - was born on October 15 in Kaliningrad (formerly East Prussia) and grew up in the Polish port city of Gdańsk
1958-64 - studied architecture in Berlin and at the Technical University of Braunschweig
1965 - passed his exams and in the same year co-founded the architectural office Gerkan, Marg und Partner (gmp) with Meinhard von Gerkan
1972 - worked at the Free Academy of Arts in Hamburg
1974 - worked at the German Academy for Planning Cities and Landscapes
1975-83 - was Vice President and then President of the Association of German Architects (BDA)
1986 - received an offer to teach at the Department of Urban Planning at RWTH Aachen
1996 - The Alfred Töpfer Foundation awarded him the Fritz Schumacher Prize
2004 - received a plaque from the Free Academy of Arts in Hamburg
2005 - received the Grand Prize from the Association of German Architects
