Biography
Ludovico "Vico" Magistretti was one of the most influential Italian architects, urban planners, and designers of the 1960s. He was born in 1920 in Milan into a middle-class family of an architect. In the autumn of 1939, he enrolled at the School of Architecture at the Milan Polytechnic, where at that time Gio Ponti and Piero Portaluppi were teaching. In 1943-44, he briefly moved to Switzerland, where he completed academic courses at Champ Universitarie Italien in Lausanne. During this time, he also met Ernest N. Rogers, who had a significant influence on Magistretti's career. After returning to Italy in 1945, he obtained a degree in architecture and immediately began working in his father's studio, who passed away the same year. Over 50 years of activity, he realized many significant architectural projects, especially in Milan. Among his most famous works are Torre al Parco, offices on Corso Europa, and projects for INA-Casa. Since the late 1970s, he taught at the Royal College of Art in London.
