Thomas Schütte

1973-81 - studied under professors Fritz Schwegler and Gerhard Richter at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf. He demonstrates his talent in many techniques and materials, which makes it impossible to categorize him solely as a sculptor. Sometimes, his scale exceeds the size expected from an artistic object and becomes an architectural work.
1998 - his bronze sculpture Big Spirit was installed on the staircase to the State Museum in Weimar.
2005 - he won the Golden Lion at the 51st Art Biennale in Venice.
2007 - his sculpture Model of a Hotel, made of colored glass panels, was temporarily installed on one of the empty plinths at Trafalgar Square in London.
2013 - a bronze sculpture Common Enemies was temporarily installed in Central Park in New York.
2016 - he opened his own sculpture hall and repository near the former missile base Museum Insel Hombroich.
2019 - on the occasion of the exhibition Bauhaus and Silk, he constructed an octagonal wooden pavilion with a diameter of 15 meters in the Imperial Park in Krefeld.
