The next lecture in the Materials Science series will take place on Thursday, April 12, 2012, at 10 AM in the VŠUP building (nám. Jana Palacha 80, Prague 1). Ramun Capaul will present traditional materials used in contemporary architecture in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. The studio CAPAUL & BLUMENTHAL ARCHITECTS received last year's European Prize for Philipp Rotthier, which this time evaluated the reconstruction of buildings affecting urban space. The jury particularly appreciated the originality of the reconstruction of the former 19th-century forge into the Sil Plaz Cinema in the town of Ilanz, which successfully combines the use of original and hi-tech materials. Ramun Capaul is regarded as a successor to Peter Zumthor and belongs to the youngest generation of Swiss architects working in this field. The lecture will be conducted in English without interpretation.
