Adolf Loos

Despite the current development of the coronavirus pandemic not being very favorable for cultural and educational events, the Plzeň association Pěstuj prostor has prepared a four-part lecture series for this autumn. Given the upcoming 150th anniversary of the birth of Adolf Loos, the series will be dedicated to the works of the world-renowned architect and his collaborators. Experts from the Czech Republic and abroad will present the results of recent research on his work, new possibilities for understanding his exceptional spatial concepts, and contemporary approaches to the restoration of Loos's oeuvre. Due to current epidemiological measures, the lectures will take place in a distance format and will be streamed on the Pěstuj prostor Facebook profile and YouTube channel.

In the opening part of the series, art and architecture historian Jana Kořínková from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Brno University of Technology will speak. In the lecture, which will be broadcast online on Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at 6 PM at this web address, she will present current findings about Loos's work. She will focus on the architect's realizations in his hometown of Brno and nearby Hrušovany near Brno, as well as the social contacts that Adolf Loos maintained in his birthplace. The lecture will also include a presentation of rich visual documentation obtained during in-depth archival research and personal visits to the buildings.

The next part of the series Adolf Loos 150, prepared with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the city of Plzeň, the Plzeň Region, the State Cultural Fund, and the Foundation for Czech Architecture, will take place on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at 6 PM again on the Pěstuj prostor Facebook profile and YouTube channel. Architectural historian and curator of the architectural collection of the West Bohemian Gallery in Plzeň, Petr Domanický, will present a lecture on the overall restoration of the Semler residence.
