Quality facade insulation plays a key role in reducing the energy demand of buildings. Facades are one of the main sources of heat loss. For contact insulation systems, ROCKWOOL primarily recommends the insulation board Frontrock MAX E. The quality of ROCKWOOL's patented double-layer boards has been verified over many years in foreign construction markets and has also been confirmed during application in ETICS systems in the Czech Republic.
ROCKWOOL has completed another set of verification tests for the Frontrock MAX E insulation boards – tests for the tensile strength of dowels according to ETAG 004, Art. 5.1.4.3.1. The results of these tests confirmed the practical experiences from three years of successful use of Frontrock MAX E insulation boards in ETICS systems in the Czech Republic. Based on this, it is possible to relax the anchoring requirements for these boards in ETICS, enabled by exceptional mechanical properties achieved only with ROCKWOOL's double-layer boards.
The mentioned test results allow for not strictly requiring the use of expansion discs and screw anchors, thanks to the rigidity of the special double-layer insulation in a compact block and its interaction with the dowel.
The use of expansion discs is very advantageous in more exposed ETICS locations; however, for "standard" areas and also, for example, for panel buildings with 12 above-ground floors, traditional dowels without expansion discs can be successfully utilized.
These changes will significantly reduce the price of the insulation system – while maintaining anchoring safety. It remains valid that the Frontrock MAX E board cannot utilize installation technologies with recessed mounting. The method of anchoring is always determined by the system bearer and the designer – structural engineer – at the final stage.
