Inaccessible attic or overhead spaces and little room beneath them. A situation that certainly cannot be solved with a classic staircase, and constantly pulling out and storing a ladder can become tiresome over time. The ideal solution that will help in this situation is the ARISTO folding stairs.
The modern attic stairs are no longer just an ordinary ladder, but come with a whole range of features. They are fire and climate-resistant, have insulated designs even for low-energy houses, are equipped with safety features such as special handrails, and can be anchored to the ceiling as well as to the wall. Of course, they also ensure easy handling and problem-free maintenance.
Construction Material
Always choose fully metal folding stairs. "Most cheaper options are made of wood, which has minimal resistance to climatic fluctuations. It naturally reacts very sensitively by absorbing moisture and subsequently drying out," explains Petr Paksi, commercial director of J.A.P., a company that specializes in manufacturing stairs. And since temperature fluctuations are not unusual for attic spaces, especially during the winter season, the all-metal construction is a clear advantage. Additionally, it is associated with its own mechanical durability.

Fire Protection
Attic spaces are classified into random fire sections, and therefore it often pays off to choose folding stairs with fire protection. "A typical example of a fire-resistant product is the ARISTO folding stairs, which will withstand fire for a full 45 minutes, compared to some other types that unfortunately last a shorter time. The fire-resistant properties are determined by the appropriate composition of the lid and the fire-retardant foaming tape, which seals the joint between the lid and the frame of the stairs," states Petr Paksi. Fire-resistant properties are usually supplemented by thermal resistance, preventing the cold from the attic from entering the living spaces in winter.
Thermal Insulation
ARISTO attic folding stairs can also meet stringent energy criteria, making them suitable for passive and low-energy buildings. "The standard for passive houses specifies a maximum thermal transmittance value of U = 0.8 W/m².K, while the ARISTO stairs achieve a value of U = 0.66 W/m².K. This low thermal transmittance has been achieved through the use of insulating mineral wool and the addition of an insulated upper lid that opens simultaneously with the lower one," adds Petr Paksi.
Easy Handling
Equally important when choosing attic stairs is considering how often the stairs will be used. The ARISTO stairs are a folding ladder, the weight of which is mitigated by pull springs that ensure that the stairs do not spring out sharply when the lid is opened, preventing potential injury during manipulation. "For comfortable operation of the folding stairs, a pair of coiled compression springs alleviate the two parts of the ladder as it opens and closes," concludes Petr Paksi.
Standard and atypical sizes of stairs, including necessary certifications, are also available.
