The theme "Absorbing Modernity: 1914 – 2014" will accompany the architectural interpretation of the exhibitions of all national pavilions at the 14th International Architecture Exhibition, which starts in Venice on June 7. The German project has been taken on by a duo of architects from Zurich, Alex Lehnerer and Savvas Ciriacidis, who involved the German company Schüco International KG, a leader in the field of building envelopes, in the implementation.

The Schüco building in the northern Italian city of Padova, with its energy-efficient and innovative window and facade design, reflects the company philosophy.

At this moment, it is still impossible to fully reveal how the duo of architects Lehnerer and Ciriacidis will interpret the broadly conceived brief from Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas, the curator of this year's edition, within the German project entitled "Bungalow Germania." However, we can reveal that their concept views architecture as a social promise or commitment. Their work is, among other things, inspired by the Office Bungalow in Bonn, designed by the prominent modernist architect Sep Ruf. Even from such a briefly described concept, it is clear why both architects, operating the architectural office CIRIACIDISLEHNERER in Zurich, chose Schüco's systematic solutions for windows, doors, and facades for their team. "Given the 60 years of experience, Schüco is the perfect partner for our concept," explains Savvas Ciriacidis.

The headquarters of Schüco in Bielefeld, Germany, where window, door, and facade systems for sustainable building envelopes are developed.
For Andreas Engelhardt, CEO of Schüco, the decision to participate in the project was clear. "We immediately agreed to get involved in the project, and we are pleased to support the German project. Architects are significant partners for us, with whom we communicate continuously, and the architectural biennale has a long tradition of collaboration with renowned international architects."

The international audience is certainly looking forward to seeing how Messrs. Lehnerer and Ciriacidis approached the assigned theme and how skillfully they incorporated fundamental elements of German architectural history into their project.
