Don't keep your great projects to yourself – enter them in the Interior of the Year competition announced by the Institute of Interior Design. As part of the Interior of the Year competition, exceptional private and public interiors designed by Czech and Slovak architects (both domestically and abroad) are awarded annually. The aim of the competition is to popularize original living spaces, as well as extraordinary designs for shops, public spaces, hotels, or restaurants, but also to influence the wider public through the informed opinions of the expert jury – to bring inspiration and set trends. Czech and Slovak architects can submit their projects until February 20. The results will be announced at the international housing congress Living Forum on March 31.
This year, in its fifth edition, the Interior of the Year competition has a new partner, the company Hager. Although it is a technology company primarily focused on developing solutions and technologies for residential and commercial electrical installations, design plays an indispensable role in Hager's portfolio. Not only do Hager's highly regarded Berker switches receive design awards around the world, but a wide range of technological products for the management and distribution of energy proudly carry the Red Dot Award.
The exceptional emphasis on top-notch design placed on the appearance of Berker switches is evidenced by the collaboration between Hager and jury member of this year’s Interior of the Year competition, designer and professor at the Prague Academy of Art, Architecture and Design, Rony Plesl. Rony Plesl designed an original line of switches as part of a joint project by the Czech branch of Hager and the design store MONOBRAND within the custom Hager Manufaktura program, which was first presented at the Designblok 2018 fair. This unique series originating from the Czech Republic is offered by the German-French group Hager in over 120 countries around the world as part of its custom Manufaktura program. The individualized switches are based on the standard Berker R.3 and Berker R.classic lines, yet they captivate at first glance with the fragile and striking beauty of glass, a typical material associated not only with the name of Rony Plesl but primarily with the long glassmaking tradition of the Czech lands. These glass switches have thus become another Czech mark in the world of design and glasswork.
"We are happy to support the Interior of the Year competition; I believe that such exhibitions strengthen the perception of the importance of architecture and design in the eyes of the general public," explains Thomas Grund, the CEO of Hager Electro in the Czech Republic. "We are pleased to assist architects who use our Berker switches in their projects to participate in the competition," smiles Thomas Grund. Hager will provide architects entering their projects with Berker switches in the competition with the following support:
Payment of the entry fee of 5,000 CZK
Assistance with the administrative processing of the application
Media coverage of the project
Invitation to participate in the Light + Building 2020 fair
The deadline for applications for this year's competition is February 20, 2020. We will gradually present selected entered projects to you.
