Skylights are a direct line for sunlight, allowing light to literally flood the interiors of modern buildings with flat roofs. Last year, the VELUX Group introduced a new generation of skylights for flat roofs and received the prestigious Red Dot Design Award for their elegant and minimalist design in the Product Design category. VELUX is now expanding its portfolio of skylights with three additional maxi sizes in rectangular shapes, enhancing their applicability in modern interiors under flat roofs.

The new generation of VELUX skylights includes a range of technical innovations that meet modern minimalist aesthetics, excellent energy efficiency, plenty of daylight, and great sound insulation, thus creating a perfect indoor climate and a pleasant place for relaxation. User comfort is further enhanced by the proven resistance of skylights to weather conditions and burglary, a maintenance-free PU frame, and especially the provided 10-year warranty. With a rain sensor, homeowners can enjoy a comfortable indoor environment without worrying about unexpected rain, as roof ventilation ensures the expulsion of warm and stale air. All variants can be equipped with discreetly placed solar-powered awnings or blackout blinds, as well as insect nets.

While the current trend for skylight frames is minimalism, meaning as narrow a visible width as possible, with motors or shading accessories needing to be completely hidden, the opposite applies to window areas. The larger the glazing, the more daylight that brightens the space and transforms the atmosphere of the room. One of the biggest advantages of the new generation of VELUX skylights is therefore the frameless glazing, which, along with the unique construction, increases the daylight permeability by up to 52%* compared to the previous generation. All new generation skylights are now available in 13 different sizes, including giant two-meter skylights. Three additional maxi rectangular sizes have been newly added: 150×80 cm, 150×120 cm, and 200×60 cm.

"Generous daylighting is an obvious trend, and with the new sizes of skylights, the possibilities for their use expand. There are situations where a rectangular skylight is more suitable than a square one, for example above a long kitchen countertop. Instead of two smaller skylights, it's more elegant to use one long rectangular skylight, which additionally brings more daylight into the interior while keeping the same glazed area," explains VELUX architect Marek Petrík.

The new skylights from VELUX offer excellent thermal insulation and reduce energy needs due to exceptionally low heat transfer coefficient values: with insulating triple glazing, their Urc,ref300 reaches only 0.55 W/m²K. Skylights are ideal for roofs with a slope of 0° to 15°, and customers no longer need to worry about outdoor noise as they provide excellent sound insulation—up to 42 dB. They are available in a fixed version, in an electric variant, and also solar-powered; glazing can be completely flat (for roof slopes of 2°-15°) or rounded (for roof slopes of 0°-15°). Remote-controlled products are fully compatible with VELUX App Control and VELUX ACTIVE with NETATMO.

"Our portfolio now covers all lighting needs for flat roofs. Everyone can find the perfect skylight for their roof with us. We have skylights with a dome without insulating glazing, which provides non-glare daylight and optimal privacy with minimal maintenance requirements in unheated buildings. However, we also offer advanced solutions with a dome and insulating glazing, as well as a complete range of designer skylights with flat or rounded glass for lovers of modern design," says Jakub Mrázek, technical advisor at VELUX.
