The main objective of the reconstruction of the Devín hotel in Bratislava, which took place in 2011-2012, was to build on the long-standing tradition of a first-class hotel in the city center and to sensitively restore its spaces in accordance with the original character. The restoration of the floors in one of the oldest hotels in Bratislava was significantly supported by Thomsit and Ceresit materials.
The hotel services at Hotel Devín were among the best in the city even before the renovation, a level acknowledged with a Certificate of Excellence by the travel portal TripAdvisor. This award was the result of long-term highly positive ratings of the hotel's services by guests. Clients have always appreciated the location, cleanliness, willingness, and approach of the staff, as well as the unique atmosphere of a traditional hotel. The hotel's French restaurant also received great ratings, scoring 13 out of 20 points from Gault Millau, one of the most influential restaurant guides, for the years 2010 and 2011.

However, the hotel operated from 1954 without significant changes, which is why the hotel management decided on a comprehensive restoration of the listed building. Although this paused operations for a year, the result is worth it. The primary goal - to continue the long-standing tradition of a prominent hotel in the center of Bratislava and sensitively restore the hotel spaces in line with its original character - has been achieved. The atmosphere of a traditional hotel has not disappeared, but guests can now enjoy spaces equipped with the most modern technologies and materials that significantly enhance comfort in the rooms and throughout the premises.

On an area of 3,000m2, an axminster type carpet from the Polish company Kowary, one of the oldest carpet manufacturers in the world - which has been in operation since 1854 and represents the best European traditions in the textile industry - was installed. Carpets of this brand can be found in presidential palaces, embassies, luxury hotels, and other prestigious facilities. The supplier of flooring and the contractor for the work was the company Koratex, which has been on the market since 1991 and currently represents a reputable supplier of floor coverings, interior doors, and sports surfaces in Slovakia.

Among the products from Thomsit, dispersible primer Thomsit R 777 was used on the hotel's floors, along with self-levelling compounds Thomsit DX and DA. For repairing stairs and technically demanding transitions, renovation levelling compound Thomsit RS 88 was used, designed for levelling in thicknesses of 1-100 mm in one working operation. For levelling larger thicknesses, quick-setting levelling compound Ceresit CN 87 was employed.

"We worked here from May to September last year, and in laying carpets, we used a wide range of construction chemicals from Ceresit and Thomsit. Modern and first-rate materials were fundamental prerequisites for meeting the investor's requirements - to use new materials while preserving the original character and design of the interiors," says Miro Spevár from Koratex, adding: "It was not an easy execution since renovations are always more demanding than new constructions. However, no fundamental problems arose; it was more complicated especially because it was necessary to unify different floor heights. From the stated materials, it is clear that we had to use a large quantity of compounds and levelling materials - more than eight tons of DA screed, over two tons of DX, and nearly four tons of CERESIT CN 87. The original technologies were, of course, not at the current level, and especially on the long corridors lined with windows, there was significant waviness in the substrate. The passage of time had also taken its toll on the background, but otherwise, it was a routine job for us. We know Henkel building chemicals, and we know we can rely on the quality of individual products and entire systems."

For gluing the carpets, Koratex workers used dispersible adhesives Thomsit UK 200 and Thomsit T 440, characterized by the absence of solvents, easy application, and excellent final bond strength. The profiles and skirting boards were glued with Thomsit Chemoprén for Floors.
