Prague, September 27 - The 22nd annual international festival of contemporary art 4+4 Days in Motion will offer an extensive program of various genres from October 6 to 14 at many locations in Prague: from current and provocative theater, dance, and multimedia productions by creators not only from Europe but also from Angola, Algeria, Morocco, Ukraine, the USA, Canada, and Côte slona, as well as a cross-sectional exhibition of the most interesting contemporary visual art, debates on current topics from art, architecture, and urbanism, guided walks around Karlín, and premieres of site-specific theater performances by leading Czech companies - such as the VOSTO5 theater, Masopust, VerTeDance, or Spitfire Company. The festival will be the first to open one floor of the Karlín Barracks to the public, which will become this year's festival center. The program will further host Divadlo Archa, Ponec, Alfred ve dvoře, and Studio ALTA. This year's festival 4+4 Days in Motion will take place thanks to cooperation with the Cultural Center Karlín Barracks, the Ministry of Justice of the Czech Republic, and the Prague 8 City District. Kasárna Karlín - Locations: festival center, contemporary art exhibition, films, discussions, bar...

“We have been given the opportunity to ceremonially open part of the main building of the Karlín barracks to the public. We are pleased to make historical sites accessible to the people of Prague. In this case, it is a cultural monument from the time of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy,” states the dramaturge of the project Locations, Denisa Václavová. The main attraction will be an extensive exhibition of contemporary art this year titled AMIWHATIAMTHINKINGABOUT? Curators Tomáš Svoboda and Ondřej Chrobák have selected current large-format objects, paintings, and installations from a total of 30 authors. Visitors will view it from a 384-meter-long path created from a metal scaffolding structure, which will be sensitively integrated into the neoclassical barracks, and with a maximum incline of 5 – 65%, visitors will reach a height of up to 8 meters.
The program here will also include not only site-specific theatrical projects, discussions, and lectures (see below) but also screenings of American underground films (Kino Transgrese), video performances by Cristina Maldonado and students from DAMU, or artistic workshops and interactive installations for children prepared by the platform Do You Have an Artistic Gut? There will also be a café and bar with evening DJs.

Walks: Radovan Lipus, Dorota Kluská, Kateřina Racková, Pavel Karous, or Ondřej Cihlář

The Karlín barracks will also become the starting point for a number of walks in the nearby and more distant surroundings: for example, with Radovan Lipus about Picturesque Karlín, Negrelli Viaduct, and Karlín Square, with the initiative Empty Houses after Invalidovna, Mazutka, and endangered industrial buildings, with Ondřej Cihlář on the theme of Cottages in Barracks, with Dorota Kluská on Inner Blocks and the building of the Karlín barracks, with Gallery Viper through the inner blocks of Karlín, with Kateřina Racková through Industrial Karlín, and with Pavel Karous on the topic Aliens and Herons in Karlín.

Discussions: empty houses, private galleries, beauty in art, Adam Gebrian and well-known artists...

The Karlín barracks will also become a center for lectures and discussions on current topics related to visual arts, architecture, and urbanism. For example, a debate on private galleries will take place (gallery owner Katharine Kastner, artists Krištof Kintera, Jiří Kovanda, curator David Korecký, architects Eva Ceska and Jiří Vendl, and journalist Jan Skřivánek), a discussion on empty houses and their possible use, or a debate on the concept of "beauty" in art with the participation of artists, curators, and theorists. The festival will also feature an evaluation of the contemporary art exhibition Documenta and conclude with a very personal discussion involving Adam Gebrian with Kateřina Šedá, Krištof Kintera, and Petr Babák titled I Am Who I Want to Be?
