VVP AVU cordially invites you to the last lecture of the spring cycle "Wednesdays at AVU" next Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at 6:00 PM in the auditorium of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (3rd floor, U Akademie 4, Prague 7).
VÁCLAV HÁJEK Rosa rosarum. The Metaphor of the Color Pink in Mass Culture and Art
Currently, pink is most commonly associated in popular perception with certain gender-related meanings, which lead, for example, to the so-called pink advertising, etc. However, there is an undeniable increase in the use of pink in various areas of fashion, design, advertising, or style in general, where gender relevance no longer plays a role, but rather a generally perceived subtext of sentimentality, emotionality, a certain softening, dulling of contrasts, etc. The significance and use of pink can be traced historically (from Rococo, through symbolism, etc.) or as a narrative means or a symptom of a stylistic position (its significance in the pharmaceutical industry, etc.). Remarkably, there is a certain disappearance of pink from the realm of fine arts, where just a few years ago we could often encounter it as a colored trace of shifts in the concept of the artifact. The torch of pink has been widely taken up by graphic design, advertising, and lifestyle from fine arts. Art historian Václav Hájek, who lectures at FHS UK in Prague and at FaVU VUT in Brno, will explore the color pink from all perspectives.
You can also watch the lecture online on the ČT 24 portal or on the iVysílání webpage of Czech Television, where it will later be archived. Technical support by Diglab AVU. The program of the entire cycle for the summer semester 2010/2011 can be found in the attachment or on the VVP AVU page.
