On Thursday, April 5, 2012, at 5 PM, the exhibition OFIS Architects 2002–2012 / Inspiring Limits will be ceremonially opened at the Architecture Cabinet of the Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava. The exhibition will present the work of the Slovenian architectural studio OFIS Architects Ljubljana. The opening will be introduced by Jiří Jůza, the director of the Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava (GVUO), and it will be personally inaugurated by architects Rok Omán and Špela Videčnik. The exhibition, prepared by the civic association SPOK, will be on view at the House of Art in Ostrava (Jurečkova 9) until May 27.

The exhibition project is dedicated to the Slovenian architectural studio OFIS Architects Ljubljana, which was established in 1996. In its relatively short existence, the studio has received numerous internationally recognized awards. It focuses primarily on architectural projects, scenography, and design. The architects present their work at exhibitions in both Europe and America.

“A sensitive dialogue of innovative spatial and geometric principles with traditional
methods, combined with an original understanding of genius loci, characterizes the works of this young studio, from which we can expect much in the future,” says Vladimír Šlapeta, a leading Czech architectural historian.

The studio has been achieving success in international architectural competitions for several years. As early as 1998, it won several significant architectural competitions, including the design for a football stadium in Maribor and the Museum of the City of Ljubljana. Many of their projects have been nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award, and among other awards, they received the prestigious London award Young Architect of the Year (2000), an honorable mention at the Miami Biennale for a villa with a base (2005), and the Innovation Award at the European Grand Prix (2006).

The studio is based in Ljubljana and Paris and collaborates with other architectural studios in London and Moscow. Over the past ten years, the architects have worked for national and international clients from both the private and public sectors. They participate in various architectural competitions worldwide. Among the winning projects, we can mention the commission for a large commercial complex in Venice (Italy), a residential complex in Graz (Austria), apartments in Paris (France), and a football stadium in Belarus (Ukraine), which will be completed this year.

Among the completed projects, we can highlight the Apartment Building in Ljubljana (Slovenia, 2001), the City Museum of Ljubljana (Slovenia, 2004), the Apartment Building on the Coast (Slovenia, 2006), the Football Stadium Maribor (Slovenia, 2008), the Alpine Cabin (Slovenia, 2009), or the Chapel of Farewell (Slovenia, 2009).

The exhibition takes place as part of the Architecture Week Ostrava 2012 festival and with the financial support of the statutory city of Ostrava.

Exhibition halls open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
