On Thursday, September 24, 2015, at 6:00 PM, we cordially invite you to the Antiquarian Bookshop and Club Fiducia at Nádražní Street 30 in Ostrava for a lecture by the renowned Czech director Radovan Lipus Fleeting Traces in Brazil - Juscelino Kubitschek & Oscar Niemeyer or the visionary president and his genius architect.

The topic of Radovan Lipus's lecture will be the collaboration between the visionary politician, governor of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, and later successful president Juscelino Kubitschek (1902 - 1976), whose great-grandfather came from the South Bohemian countryside near Třeboň, and the genius architect Oscar Niemeyer (1907 - 2012). Through a series of unique photographs taken during filming in the autumn of 2014, we will first visit the Pampulha resort, the city of Belo Horizonte, where their joint creative journey began even before World War II. This journey peaked during Kubitschek's presidential term with the construction of an entirely new futuristic capital of the Brazilian federation - Brasília. We will explore not only its bold urbanism, crafted by Lúcio Costa (1902 - 1998), but also the interiors of monumental public buildings - the Palácio Planalto, Alvorada, Itamaraty, and the Cathedral of the Revelation of the Virgin Mary. We will not forget the congenial co-creator of these men - landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx (1909 - 1994), in whose refined green framework all the buildings are set.
