We invite you to a lecture by Patrik Schumacher, head of Zaha Hadid Architects, which will take place on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at 19:00 in the Emil Belluš auditorium (Faculty of Architecture STU) in Bratislava. “In creating architecture, imagination or anecdotal memory alone is no longer enough. Digital data must help us shape buildings.” On Thursday, May 18, 2017, at 19:00, the lecture by Patrik Schumacher, head of Zaha Hadid Architects, will take place in the Emil Belluš auditorium (Faculty of Architecture STU) in Bratislava. Patrik Schumacher is the head of the London studio Zaha Hadid Architects. Together with Zaha Hadid, he defined the stream of "parametric" architecture, which relies on algorithms responding to natural parameters such as sun trajectory, wind strength, gravity influence, or human attributes like productivity and social interaction. By analyzing digital data sets, interactions are simulated, resulting in organic and curved shapes characteristic of parametric architecture. Zaha Hadid Architects is behind more than 950 projects in 44 countries around the world. Among their most famous buildings are the MAXXI museum building in Rome, the recently completed Port House in Antwerp, and the Riverside Museum in Glasgow. Currently, a residential complex called SkyPark is under construction in Bratislava. Patrik Schumacher joined Zaha Hadid Architects in 1988. He studied architecture and philosophy at universities in London, Bonn, and Stuttgart. In 1996, he co-founded the design research laboratory at the AA - Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, of which he is still a co-director. As a visiting professor, he has led studios at the University of Illinois in Chicago, Columbia University, and the Graduate School of Design at Harvard, and he regularly lectures at universities around the world. The lecture is organized by the Archtung team in collaboration with Penta Investments. Archtung is behind projects such as the Night of Architecture student semester work exhibition, the web documentary ICONS, and the student award CHEDDAR.
