November Talks 2023 - lecture series at the Faculty of Architecture CTU

Four autumn Mondays will once again belong to the November Talks lecture series at the FA. Under the subtitle "On teaching," various perspectives from foreign figures in architectural theory and practice will be offered on education. The series will kick off on November 13, 2023, with Italian architect Pier Paolo Tamburelli.

"The personalities who have accepted the invitation this year deal with education from various angles, from teaching beginning architects to the functioning of architectural schools and global themes. In addition to sharing experiences, they can also offer comparisons between education at foreign schools and at our faculty," says Miroslav Pazdera, curator of this year's November Talks.
The theory of contemporary architecture as a discipline standing between gesture and space will be addressed in the opening lecture "On Books, On Buildings" by Pier Paolo Tamburelli. He serves as the head of the Department of Design Theory at TU Vienna, played a key role in founding the architectural magazine San Rocco, and is the founder of the architectural office baukuh., whose works include the House of Memory in Milan (2015) and the Poretti Brewery entrance pavilion in Induno Olona (2019), and is currently designing, for example, the European Library in Milan.
The second Monday will feature the Floating University Berlin, which has gradually evolved since 2018 into a nature-culture educational institution addressing future questions of architecture and the environment. In the lecture "Learning with the Trouble," they will present the formal and informal teaching methods that take place at FU.
On the third Monday, we will welcome architect, theorist, and educator Dubravka Sekulić, head of the MA City Design program at the Royal College of Art in London, who has long been engaged with the issue of space as a key value determining the future form of life. In her lecture, she will focus on questions and themes shaping the education of experts addressing spatial problems posed by global crises that await our planet.
The lecture series will conclude on the fourth Monday with Oliver Lütjens and Thomas Padmanabhan, founding partners of Lütjens Padmanabhan Architects and currently visiting professors at ETH Zurich, who see joint teaching as a natural extension of their architectural practice. In the lecture "Teaching Together," they will discuss the shared creative process and the space of imagination.
The November Talks will take place over four Mondays starting from November 13 at 6:30 PM – November 13 (Pier Paolo Tamburelli), November 20 (Floating University Berlin), November 27 (Dubravka Sekulić), and December 4 (Oliver Lütjens and Thomas Padmanabhan) – in lecture hall 155 Gočár, Faculty of Architecture CTU, Thákurova 9, Prague 6.
The lectures in English are intended for the general public, admission is free and wheelchair accessible. The November Talks series has been supported by the Sto Foundation since 2006 and takes place annually at six selected European schools of architecture.
