The lecture by Michaela Ryšková Wool, Cotton, and Linens. A Reflection on the Textile Industry of Moravia and Silesia will take place on Wednesday, May 18th at 5 PM in the meeting room of the National Heritage Institute in Ostrava (Odboje 1, Moravská Ostrava).
Textile production was one of the most developed industrial sectors in Moravia and Silesia. It was based on local raw materials – wool and linen, supplemented by imported cotton. During the 19th and 20th centuries, hundreds of textile factories emerged, which fundamentally influenced the shape of many cities. Key milestones in development, transformations of cities and landscapes, characteristics of individual operations, and the architecture of textile factories will be presented through examples of several textile centers (Brno, Šumperk, Frýdek-Místek, and Krnov).
