Francine Houben, creative director of the Dutch studio Mecanoo, designs buildings that are sensory, kind, technically provocative, and firmly rooted in their context. Francine Houben, who co-founded Mecanoo in 1984 after winning a competition for social housing, says, "An unforgettable building — that is what I want to create." Francine Houben will present her visions and the philosophy of her work through specific examples implemented around the world, such as the integration of the Birmingham Library with the REP Theatre, the Dudley Municipal Offices in Boston, and the Wei-Wu-Ying Centre for the Arts in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
