On Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at 5:00 PM, the emeritus rector of AVU, Jiří T. Kotalík, will present the work of former professor of the AVU School of Architecture, František Cubr, at the Cultural Community Center ART (Nad Královskou oborou 55, Prague 7).
František Cubr (January 8, 1911 – June 30, 1976) was an architect, educator, and a resident of Prague. He studied at the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering of the Czech Technical University from 1928 to 1934. In 1937, he founded an architectural studio together with Zdeněk Pokorný. After World War II, he was among the co-founders of Stavoprojekt (1948). During the 1950s, he prepared the presentation of Czechoslovakia for the World Expo – EXPO 1958 in Brussels, which became phenomenally successful also due to several other creators (director Alfréd Radok, Czech glassmakers, etc.). Later, Cubr also participated in the subsequent exhibition held in 1967 in Montreal, Canada. He worked on the reconstructions of the St. George's Convent at Prague Castle, the Czechoslovak Embassy in Athens, and the Central Telecommunications Building in Prague. In 1960, he became a professor of architecture at the Czech Technical University in Prague and eight years later (1968), a professor at the AVU School of Architecture in Prague.
