October 6, 2016 – Brno in the 19th Century - Ringstrasse, a Precursor to Modern Urbanism. Förster, Lorenz, Mayreder
The urbanism of Brno in the 19th century is a precursor to modern urbanism. In its early stages, it was influenced by the end of the Napoleonic wars and the decline of the fortification system, a new phase of the industrial revolution after 1838, the introduction of steam railways, the establishment of a tram network, and the idea and construction of the Ringstrasse.

October 20, 2016 – Modern Urbanism of the 20th Century: Kumpošt, Fuchs, (Kočí), Chlup

Modern urbanism of the 20th century was a significant turning point in spatial planning in Brno. This was due to several factors: changes in national relations in the leadership of Brno, alterations in the economic ties of the new state, the emergence of Greater Brno, and a number of other factors. Brno was undoubtedly one of the main centers where modern urbanism was born and where it was also put into practice.

November 8, 2016 – The Beginnings of Urban Structure and the Determination by Place (after the 13th Century)

The initial crystallization of the later city and its terrain predisposition. The introductory speech will focus on the pre-urbanization manifestations from the end of the 9th century to the 13th century. It will attempt to synthesize the existing (still fragmented) knowledge about settlement development, which requires new strategies for a credible and generally accepted outline of the genesis leading to the later city. Attention will be given to the determination of the broader Brno terrain compared to other European cities. It will highlight the hope associated with the development of new methods, such as landscape archaeology.
