The Vítkovice railway station is one of the most prominent examples of Brussels style on a national level. The design of the reception hall is by the leading Czechoslovak architect Josef Danda. Its photographs have reached the pages of leading architecture magazines, including those in the West. After 1989, the significance of the station sharply declined; today only trains commuting between Opava and Těšín stop here – and the station is clearly deteriorating. It has been proposed twice for inclusion in the list of cultural monuments of the Czech Republic, but the Ministry of Culture rejected the application in both cases. We will discuss the future of the building with experts and current owners of the building, with the evening moderated by Jan Lenart from Ostrava University.

We are organizing in cooperation with the Svatý Václav association.

Please reserve your seats in advance either at the antique shop or by calling: +420 596 117 312 (Mon-Fri 10-18).
