ARCHITECT'S APPROACH TO PUBLIC CONTRACTS AND ASSETS

- Why are there so few architectural competitions in the Czech Republic? - Are architectural competitions opportunities for architects or complications in their work? - Do architectural competitions lead to the improvement of architecture? - Are architectural competitions a way to better manage public finances? - Is competition inherent to architects?
The lecture and discussion will cover architectural competitions in all aspects – from the perspective of architecture quality, management of public wealth, fair share among architects, etc. The topic will be explored in full breadth and in all aspects. Little-known connections and characteristics of this activity will also be presented.
Jan Sapák graduated from the Faculty of Architecture, VUT Brno, and the Academy of Fine Arts, Prague. From 1984 to 1988, he worked at SIAL in Liberec, then at Stavoprojekt Brno on hospital projects. In 1989, he worked in Vienna at the studio of Wilhelm Holzbauer. He has been publishing since 1977 in Czech and foreign magazines. Works: reconstruction of the Jánská savings bank, Capitol Palace Brno Rašínova (together with Škrabal and Grym), reconstruction of Baas's villa, research center Říčany, design of a house near the exhibition grounds in Brno.
