Zlín - The Zlín District Court banned construction works in the park behind the theater. ČTK was informed today by the spokesperson for the municipal office, Zdeněk Dvořák. The court thus granted the city hall's request, which had filed a proposal for the aforementioned preliminary measure. Earlier, the Czech Environmental Inspection also issued a preliminary measure prohibiting construction activities near the trees. “The court's decision is enforceable by execution. This means that the investor could face repeated monetary fines in case of non-compliance,” stated Mayor Miroslav Adámek. Investor Stanislav Matoušek began construction in the park in mid-December, even though his long-term contracts, which required him to complete and obtain approval for the construction of multifunctional buildings by December 31 of this year, expire. According to the city administration, the investor's behavior is malicious, as it is clear that he will not be able to complete or obtain approval for the construction in time. The builders drilled two wells in the park, which they then concreted. Matoušek recently expressed to Mladá fronta Dnes that he does not intend to abandon the plan. “The construction is prepared to be completed,” the newspaper quoted the investor. The intention to build a multifunctional building in the area behind the theater was approved by the then city leadership in 2009. However, the investor failed to execute the project by the set deadline and in 2011 asked the council for an extension of the contracts until the end of this year. At that time, they granted him the extension by a narrow majority of votes, allegedly not wanting to delay the long-prepared project. However, the construction was not initiated in the following years either. This spring, after protests from environmentalists, the city hall stated that it would not approve any extensions of the lease or tree felling. The park is often used by theater people and various events are held there, for example, as part of the Setkání/Stretnutie festival.
