Prague - In the area between Ladronka and Strahov in Prague 6, there may be a larger construction development. This follows from the change in the zoning plan approved today by Prague's councilors. The change encompasses about half of the large development area around Strahov and also encroaches into Ladronka park, which could be extended eastward. It does not affect Strahov Stadium, only two smaller stadiums to the west of it.
The change proposes extending Tomanova Street by several hundred meters up to Běžecká Street. The area to the north remains designated for family housing, and the southern part of the change anticipates the extension of Ladronka park. Instead of the current two smaller stadiums, there could be new buildings following the change. The council also recommended preparing a territorial study addressing the entire area, including Strahov Stadium.
Against the approval of changes at the council meeting spoke Deputy Mayor for Urban Development Petra Kolínská (Green/Troika Coalition). According to her, the proposal stems from past electoral periods and may not align with the plans for the area that Prague 6 currently has. Furthermore, it divides the large area around Strahov Stadium approximately in half, which should be addressed as a whole. "A significant portion of the large development area remains untouched by this change, so it divides it illogically. The Urban Development Commission did not recommend the change," she stated.
A similar opinion was expressed by the director of the city Institute of Planning and Development (IPR), Ondřej Boháč. He is not pleased that the approved change does not address the biggest issue, namely Strahov Stadium. "We perceive this as a systemic error," he stated. Local associations also disagree with the change.
On the other hand, the Prague 6 city hall agrees with the adoption of the change. "Now it allows us to start working on the planned urban study of the entire area," stated the mayor of Prague 6 Ondřej Kolář (TOP 09).
The modification of the zoning plan was proposed in 2011 by the Prague 6 city hall. The then leadership argued that it wants to reduce the scope of the large development area so that it is limited only to the area of university dormitories and the large stadium in Strahov. No decision has yet been made regarding the future of the stadium itself, the stands of which are heritage-protected.
