Prague - A working group has been formed to prepare the guidelines for an international architectural competition regarding the potential completion of the Old Town Hall in Prague. The group will be led by art historian Jiří Kotalík, the city hall informed ČTK after today's preparatory meeting of the group.

The team will also include art historian Zdeněk Lukeš, and the director of the National Gallery Milan Knížák has committed to participating. "Other people are also being considered," said city hall spokesman Jiří Wolf to ČTK. The next meeting will take place in a month.
The renewed idea for the completion of the town hall was introduced by Prague's ODS before the municipal elections. From 1901 to 1967, seven competitions were held for the completion of the historical monument. None of them had a winner.
According to the chairman of Prague's ČSSD and the mayor's deputy Petr Hulinský, the potential completion is not a top priority for the city. "I see priorities elsewhere," he told reporters today. He mentioned the construction of an inner car ring road and subway, tram restoration, rewards for teachers, and crime prevention.
According to the zoning plan, the area where the destroyed part of the town hall stood is now a park that was created after the war. Currently, there are also stalls on the site, which, according to the market regulations, are expected to disappear by the end of the year. The destroyed wing of the building was not original; it dated back to the 19th century.
