Kladno

Kladno – The original roof of the Kladno ice hockey stadium has been removed after several weeks of dismantling, and the preparation for the construction of a new one is beginning. The steel beams were produced by the contractor before the old structure was dismantled, said Lenka Růžková, spokesperson for the Kladno town hall, to ČTK.

The long-planned complete roof renovation began in May, but several weeks earlier, the contractor started preparations around the stadium. The ice could not disappear from the surface until the end of the season in April, which Kladno concluded with a return to the extra league. Then platforms arrived to help uninstall various auxiliary structures such as lighting, sound systems, and so on. After that, the entire roof demolition began, followed by securing the load-bearing parts of the new roof. "Preparatory work continued this week," the spokesperson stated.

The reconstruction of the roof of the ice hockey stadium is Kladno's largest investment this year, with a value of approximately 200 million crowns, and the work is expected to be completed in the autumn.

The stadium was opened in 1949 and was completely roofed over ten years later. The roof was in poor condition and in recent years its safety was monitored by special sensors, and in case of heavy snowfall, climbers were contracted to assist in clearing it.
