Olomouc – The decommissioned boiler house in the Nové Sady housing estate in Olomouc is set to transform into a branch of the city library thanks to an investment of nearly 19 million. This week, the council approved the competition conditions for the public tender for the design of the future library on Trnkova Street. Mayor Miroslav Žbánek announced this to reporters today.
The city council tasked the chief architect's department with preparing the conditions for the architectural competition. "I believe that the competition can bring an interesting shape to the future public building. The library branch will also serve as a community center," said Žbánek.
According to the mayor, the new library will enrich the service offerings in the densely populated Nové Sady housing estate and change the appearance of the corner of Zikova and Trnkova Streets. The deadline for submitting competition designs is June 25, and the jury will evaluate them on July 2. The results of the competition will then be presented through an exhibition.
The planned library will have a usable area of over 300 m². The costs for the renovation of the former boiler house are estimated by the council at 18.5 million crowns, with a significant part potentially covered by subsidies from European funds.
