Blansko - The reconstruction of the bus station in Blansko has fully commenced, with only rubble remaining from the former operational building. Concrete foundations for the new structure are expected to begin construction in December. Tomáš Vykydal, the technical deputy of the investor company ČAD Blansko, told ČTK today. The investment will require 51.3 million crowns, as the company is the owner of the station premises.
Builders started demolishing the building from the 1950s at the beginning of this week, and it was finished by Thursday. "It had a steel structure and brick partitions, so only scrap and piles of rubble remain, which are currently being cleared away. Fortunately, we did not find any hazardous materials such as asbestos, which we would have had to deal with," the deputy stated.
The company plans to relocate the remaining engineering networks by the end of the year. Then, in December, construction of the concrete foundations for the new building should begin.
About 200 buses pass through the station daily, and the company aims to manage the reconstruction while it is in operation. It has already relocated the information and ticket sales office from the station to its administrative building opposite the nearby train station. The stands for city public transport buses have also been moved in front of the train station. The reconstruction itself will be divided into phases so that bus bays will be gradually relocated throughout the area.
The new terminal will feature a covered area for passenger processing with sixteen separate departure bays, four of which will be for city public transport buses. It will also include an area designated for parking buses and a station building that will provide facilities for both passengers and employees. The carrier states that the new terminal should become a dignified gateway to the protected landscape area and Blansko itself.
