Zdena Zedníčková and Jiří Janďourek, head of the research team from Atelier Liberec, were invited to the second annual Urbanism Inventory 2011, where they presented the current form of cooperation between the Faculty of Art and Architecture in Liberec and the local municipality in designing a new concept for the city's development.
The program conference Urbanism Inventory 2011 took place in the new building of the Faculty of Architecture at ČVUT under the auspices of the Czech Chamber of Architects and in cooperation with the publishing house Zlatý řez. Over the course of two days, contributions from 25 of the most significant experts in the field of urban and landscape design were heard in a hall for 350 participants. Several dozens of interested parties had the opportunity to follow the online broadcasts on the FA ČVUT website.
Although this year's conference was primarily devoted to Prague, whose 'playground' was intended to serve as a model example for other cities, several refreshing perspectives 'from elsewhere' emerged amid the flood of Prague-related topics, including a contribution titled 'Liberec a City with Vision'. The ten-minute limit for each speaker did not allow for the presentation of the resulting analyses and proposals on which the research team had worked for several months. At the same time, it was the first presentation of the project to a broader professional audience. By the end of this year, a synthesis of all previous analyses and proposals will follow, with the main goal of creating a comprehensive and coherent vision for the development of the city of Liberec in the form of a structural plan with a longer time horizon exceeding the electoral period.
The main contribution of the presented project is the spatial understanding of the city, a perspective that is not constrained by the methodologies and processes associated with the approval of urban planning documentation, a perspective that allows for spatial reflection of the processes shaping the city in the present and the phenomena contributing to its formation in the coming years. Their proposals highlight important spaces and places in a broadly understood city center and seek to strengthen the strengths of these locations, uncover their hidden qualities, and thus create an intense environment directly in the city with various atmospheres and specifics.
